PROCESS GUIDE
STEP ONE – Design Concept
We start by meeting with you onsite, via a phone call or Zoom to understand your space, your goals, your budget and your business vision. This first step is about listening. We want to understand how your business works, what your customers need, and how you want people to feel when they walk through the door. From there, we help turn your ideas into a clear design direction. We guide you through the process step by step, so it feels simple and easy to follow. Your input is important at every stage, and we work closely with you to create a fitout that feels right for your business. Once Lumos Design is appointed, we visit the site and begin the design concept. This may include mood boards, inspiration images, colour palettes, finishes and sample boards to help you see the look and feel of your new space. DESIGN APPROVAL Once you are happy with the design concept, we move into construction drawings. This includes floor plans, elevations, joinery details and other drawings needed to help your builder or shopfitter understand how the space should be built.
STEP TWO – Quoting Stage & Building Approval
Once the construction drawings are ready, they can be sent to builders or shopfitters for quoting. We help make this stage smoother by providing clear drawings, details and specifications. This helps the builder understand the design, the budget and the needs of your business. BUILDING APPROVAL If your tenancy is inside a shopping centre, we can help with the design approval process through centre management. We can also support you with the building approval process before construction begins. This may involve working with your builder, shopfitter, local council or a private certifier. All required approvals must be in place before construction work starts. Please note: the private certifier is external to Lumos Design.
STEP THREE – Construction Stage
Once you receive your quotes, you can choose the shopfitter or builder who is the best fit for your project. The construction stage usually takes around 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the size and detail of the fitout. During this stage, we work closely with your appointed builder or shopfitter to help keep the project aligned with the design. We are here to answer questions, review details and support the process so the final result reflects the approved design as closely as possible. COMPLETION & HANDOVER At the end of the project, your builder or shopfitter will complete the handover stage. They will also help provide the relevant certificates and documents needed for your business to begin operating in the space. Lumos Design will review the completed fitout and help make sure the final space reflects the design intent, details and vision we worked on together. A final checklist will be available for you to sign off on.
